'It tastes like Snickers' is what I hear most when people take a bite, and so in homage, I've named this my Marathon bar and only those old enough will get the reference.
Crunchy natural peanut butter, honey, raw cacao, chia seeds, oats and a scoop of vanilla protein powder make these squares irresistible, and perfect if you need a guilt-free sweet treat. And, unlike their chocolate namesake, they're packed with protein, fibre and antioxidants.
For fun, I did a little comparison (same weight - 48g) with a Snickers and here goes…
Less than half the sugar, over double the protein, one third of the saturated fat and a whopping 4g of fibre compared to zero. And sodium? Only 13mg compared with 210g!
(I used Form Vanilla Protein Powder so these are suitable for vegan diets.)
Ingredients: (6 bars)
125g crunchy peanut butter (I use Whole Earth)
60g honey
60g oats
15g vanilla protein powder
15g raw cacao
15g chia seeds
Method:
Warm the peanut butter and honey together gently in a pan
Weigh out the dry ingredients into a bowl
Take the pan off the heat and stir in the dry ingredients and mix well
Tip into a rectangular container (approx 21cm x 14cm) and press down well until evenly spread
Refrigerate for 1 hour and slice into 6 portions
